Birth Gathering at Maha Rose

It's happening again! We have another Birth Gathering coming your way!

Join us Feb 5th starting at 7:30pm at Maha Rose

TO SIGN UP GO HERE

Our Birth Gatherings bring together the birth curious of all genders and at all stages of thinking and not thinking about pregnancy from ‘I reach for my birth control at the mere thought’ to ‘I’m already pregnant!' We will engage with our own birth stories, explore labor and creativity, and hold space for you to ask anything, learn from each other and start connecting with birth in a new way. No lectures, no notebooks, no scary videos-just good eats, people and the discovery and exploration of the magic of being born. We can’t wait!

SEE YOU THERE!

CALLING ALL BIRTH WORKERS!

As birth workers we know how hard it can be to find the time to take care of ourselves as we are often so busy caring for others.

As we move into the colder months let's take the opportunity to reconnect with ourselves and process some of what has happened this year-  personally and in our work- to clear some cobwebs as we gear up to hibernate.

Brilliant Bodies is excited to invite you to a special evening of SOUND MEDITATION designed specifically for BIRTH WORKERS in collaboration with Jesse Flower-Ambroch.

If you're not familiar with the practice you're in for a treat! It's a group meditation that uses sound and the vibrations sound creates as a gateway to disconnect from our monkey minds. It uses guided breathing techniques, vocalization and a mixture of crazy cool harmonic instruments that allow us to quiet our mind, relax and access a deep meditative state.

This will be a JUST FOR ME evening and we would love to have you!

To learn more and sign up go here.

Space is very limited so sign up soon if you're planning to come. The early birth (hehe) special runs until October 20th.

Hope to see you there!

Birth Gathering 3

WE BRING TOGETHER THE BIRTH CURIOUS OF ALL GENDERS AND AT ALL STAGES OF THINKING ABOUT PREGNANCY FROM "I REACH FOR MY BIRTH CONTROL AT THE MERE THOUGHT" TO "I'M ALREADY KNOCKED UP".

OUR GOAL IS TO NORMALIZE AND DEMYSTIFY BIRTH IN CREATIVE SPACES WITH AWESOME PEOPLE, THOUGHT-PROVOKING CONVERSATION AND DELICIOUS FOOD AND WINE.  WE WANT TO HOLD SPACE FOR YOU TO ASK ANYTHING, LEARN FROM EACH OTHER AND START CONNECTING WITH BIRTH IN A NEW WAY.

Introducing Brilliant Bodies

I'm really excited to share that my partner Ashley and I have decided to join forces and create Brilliant Bodies- our stomping ground to build trust and awareness of the brilliance of the human body. It is also the home base for our doula, stress-reduction services and other upcoming projects.

This is a culmination of our personal practices, experiences, studies, past projects, major failures and "aha" moments over the last bunch of years and so it feels really wild/ scary/awesome/nerve-wracking- all the things!- to finally birth this project.

Brilliant Bodies is not only about birth, it's about finding ways to connect to our own bodies and cycles while building community, new collaborations and having fun with it all. We hope to inspire ourselves and everyone around us to remember our own brilliance and find ways to honor and trust that more often.

Check out our new website http://www.ourbrilliantbodies.com and follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay up to date with our events and workshops.

Labor of Love

A few months ago I had the honor of witnessing the birth of Julie Rose. She was born the day after we took the belly pictures, just in time for the summer fun. Her mother labored like a total warrior, with her dad by her side the entire time. I feel so honored and privilege to have been there and so lucky to know this beautiful family.

A BIRTH GATHERING

We’re hosting a Birth Gathering!

Some of you may be thinking about childbirth in the near (or not so near) future and some of you might be reaching for your birth control. Well, we think this gathering can be valuable for all. FOR ALL GENDERS!

Crazy things are happening in hospitals right here in NYC - both in public and private settings.  Women's perineal areas are being cut without permission, babies are being given formula without consent, the C-section rate is almost 40% (W.H.O. recommends it shouldn't be higher than 10-15%!!!!). Plus, for the most part, we aren't introduced to anything surrounding childbirth until it's already happened- and in some cases, too late.

We’re especially interested in investigating why birth is so foreign in our culture and how to go about normalizing and demystifying it so that we can make informed choices and feel empowered by the experience when and if the time comes.

We truly believe that if we start arming ourselves with information now and start familiarizing ourselves with birth and trusting that it’s a normal process, when and if the time comes, we will be better able to speak up for ourselves and others, trust our bodies, and become more active participants in our births and the births of others.

So please join us:

When: July 15th at 7:30 pm

Where: 836 Bergen st. apt 105 - rooftop weather permitting

What: Chattin' about birth and drinks

We hope to see you there!

DRUM BEAT - a prayer for the earth

A mandala honoring the four directions: in the east, where the sun rises, we find the bell, the connection to the mental realm. The south where our physical body lays is the direction of the drum, the connection to our heart beat and it's incessant rhythm. In the west, click-sticks remind us of our emotions and the tools we have to liberate them. The north is our spiritual connection, where our ancestors lay, the place for the rattle, the cleansing sound.

The beating of the rattle breaks up stagnant energy that blocks the natural flow within our bodies. Is the sound of the rain, of purification. The possibility for a clean start and a new beginning with endless possibilities.

This drum is a prayer. A prayer for the earth. A prayer for women and men. A prayer so we can find our voices, connect to our heart beats and our breath. A prayer for the holiness of our bodies, the sacredness of our dance, the power of our voice. A prayer for more love. A prayer for less pain.
